“I love Jesus” oh, really?

Today I walked into a government building. Since I’m unemployed, I do that sort of thing these days, more often than I prefer. I hate going to those types of places. I was hoping to get in and get out with as few “scrapes and bruises” as possible.
However, the moment I looked behind the massive reception booth and saw who was there, any hope I had of at least a moderately pleasant visit vanished. For you see, behind that counter was a middle aged man with thinning hair and a lanyard around his neck that says “I love Jesus.”
I knew I was doomed.
ASP Bible study? Sure!!

author’s note: ASP stands for Application Service Provider. A common example is web based email like Yahoo, but you can also do word processing, spreadsheets even edit videos at websites out there. They take care of everything, you just need an internet connection.
While digging around the Internet I found myself at www.churchvideoideas.com. Being a producer whannabee, naturally, I checked out his site.
But once there, I suddenly got interested in something else (imagine that). For you see, there I found an article about “YouVersion,” and that really piqued my curiosity. Some sort of a YouTube for the Bible, I wondered? No, not at all! It is the coolest online Bible study tool I have seen in a long while.
In short, check it out! www.youversion.com.
It is “owned and operated” by a couple of guys from www.LifeChurch.tv. I first heard about LifeChurch while serving at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit in 2006. Their lead pastor spoke during the summit. He was awesome! His passion to leverage all that God has given him was contagious! His church is well known for leveraging the Internet in reaching communities.
Can I shamelessly twist your arm to give YouVersion a try? It is a great way to do on line Bible study, share some or all of your stuff with others, and learn from others.
Right now, it’s in Beta (that is to say, they are still experimenting, and expanding the features). They have several versions of the Bible that you can choose from while studying, with many more to come.
But the best part, I think, is the journal. You can put in personal notes right on the site. You can even share insights if you like.
Check it out!
Goodnight Peanut: the visual story of a good dog, a good friend

Recently a group of us received an email from a friend titled “Goodnight Peanut.” His dog Peanut had just passed away and he was letting us know.
In his family, Peanut was always there. He was there for my friend and his wife during their early “pre-children” days: you could say that he was their parenting experiment (that’s what I think, anyway). He was there when each of my friend’s children were born. He was there to greet Brownie, their second dog. He was there for a lot of things, especially the holiday pictures! I’m told that he had a calming effect on the whole family. Apparently he had this knack for showing up and just being there–and making things feel better.
It’s amazing how our lives can be touched and blessed by a pet. I think that good pets are a hold over from the way things originally were between us and animals, before the Fall that is. I think that in God’s original plan we were always supposed to get along with animals, taking care of them and them in effect taking care of us (This is not an original idea to me. I owe it to C. S. Lewis).
In his email, my friend gave us a link to a video of Peanut’s life, made from various home movie clips and brought together as a tribute to his beloved dog.
I was so touched by the video that I asked for a permanent link to it. Here is the link: http://home.comcast.net/~peomalle3/GoodnightPeanut.wmv
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
On second thought, I’d rather not….

This Sunday I went down to Peyton’s Place (home of the Colts, that is), to be with my sister and brother in law while their son had open heart surgery. Their son is 8.
In summary, God really blessed! The surgery went very well. But other great things happened along the way. My nephew’s surgery clearly drew people closer to God: all four of his grandparents, his mom and dad, aunts, uncles (that would include me, of course), friends of his mom and dad, members of their church, even total strangers who where praying via email updates from us all. In a previous article (Wood between the Worlds) I updated you all on my journey towards my next job. How about another update?
The coolest thing has happened! Suddenly I found myself no longer in “the wood between the worlds!” I am currently working a contract job in the city, doing pretty much what I have been doing for over 10 years: project management.
Wait a minute. There’s something terribly familiar about this place.
No! This can’t be happening to me! When the gem of your life freezes up

My iPod Nano froze up this morning while standing at the train station. Naturally, I accepted this little incident with grace and patience… and faith… and muttering Christianized obscenities under my breath. It’s broken! nooooo! I had no idea what to do. This expensive little device just crashed on me, and right when I needed it most: while getting on a noisy train for a 1 hour ride into the city.
Woody: “I can’t believe this is happening to me!”
Buss Lightyear: “Sheriff, this is no time to panic.”
Woody: “This is a perfect time to panic!”
Well, at least that’s how I felt at the time. I didn’t know what to do, except try make the best of it. Read more

I can’t believe it’s come to this. I can’t believe what I am going to write about. I can’t believe what I am writing on. No, I mean what I am writing *on*–the tool that I am using to write with.
Perhaps you saw it coming when I wrote the following article (click here) about the day when my sons took a turn down a “scary” path. Here is an excerpt from that article, in the event that you are too lazy to click on the link above (or if for some inexplicable reason, the article feels a tad wordy

… I picked up that book by a former IBM Compatible guru called “The Case for iMacs.” He talks about how intelligently designed they are and how life is more fulfilling with them, and the peace of mind and sense of purpose that he has found, and all that sort of stuff. But, to his credit, I’m actually getting answers to some of my questions.
I don’t know, maybe I’ll cross the line some day.
Looks like “some day” just arrived.
Just a little bit more….

Author’s note: this article was originally sent as an email in July of 2006. Inspired by a conversation I had today I thought that I would dig it back up and put in on the front page.
In keeping with the tradition of most Web site discussion thread participants, allow me to impart some useless information, mainly to describe the setting in which I am writing this article:

drink of inspiration=café mocha (of course!)

Did I tell you I got a new car? Yesssss! The old, faithful “this-belonged-to-my-mother-in-law-so-don’t-laugh” car went to its inevitable reward: the auction block.
I now own a 2002 Nissan Altima. Whoa, check this out: cold air comes from the vents; and the doors have these little buttons, push them and the windows go up and down. And the radio Read more
